She Delivers Team in Support of Environmental Conservation on Mazingira Day
As we continue empowering women through the She Delivers program, we recognize that environmental conservation is a cause that touches all of us, and women play a significant role in this effort. At She Delivers, we believe that protecting the environment is essential for building a sustainable future, and involving women is key to developing the sense of responsibility needed to maintain the delicate balance between human activity and our planet’s resources.
Over the past few decades, environmental degradation has become a global concern. This issue has grown in prominence, especially for industries like transport and logistics, where the environmental footprint is significant. Research shows that the transport sector in Kenya is one of the leading contributors to air pollution, accounting for approximately 25% of the country’s carbon dioxide emissions—the main greenhouse gas driving climate change.
As one of the largest players in Kenya’s transport and logistics sector, Ponty Pridd understands its responsibility. We are committed to offsetting our environmental impact through our ambitious 1 Million Trees Project, a major step in our journey toward carbon neutrality by 2025. This project forms part of our broader vision for sustainability and environmental stewardship, and it has been embraced across the company.
On October 10th, as Kenyans celebrated Mazingira Day (Environment Day), Ponty Pridd, alongside the She Delivers interns, took part in a tree-planting exercise. This symbolic act of planting trees wasn’t just about adding to the country’s forest cover—it was about building a future where businesses, individuals, and communities unite to protect the environment.

The tree-planting event highlighted the critical connection between She Delivers and Ponty Pridd’s environmental agenda. Ruth Mwangi shared her gratitude for being part of this initiative. “Participating in planting trees such as guava and grevillea today felt like nurturing life itself. It’s about sustainability, biodiversity, and food security,” she remarked. Her words reflect the deep impact of this experience; an acknowledgment that caring for the environment goes hand-in-hand with creating a thriving, resilient future.
The She Delivers program emphasizes practical learning, and this event offered interns a chance to actively engage in Ponty Pridd’s Carbon Neutral Project 2025. By planting trees, they contributed to restoring Kenya’s forest cover and offsetting the carbon emissions generated from fuel and electricity use. For the She Delivers team, this wasn’t just an exercise; it was a powerful learning opportunity. Nelly Nazy noted the excitement of discovering the company’s decarbonization initiatives, including solar power at operational sites and partnerships like the pilot program with Total Energies, using diesel with environmentally friendly additives.
Speaking at the event Zipporah Wambui noted “As a proud driver intern, I’ve been empowered to understand how crucial it is to offset our carbon footprint. I’m looking forward to sharing these lessons with my community and advocating for environmental conservation.” This sentiment reflects the broader vision of She Delivers—to create environmentally conscious leaders who not only apply their skills at work but also carry those lessons home to their communities.
Environmental conservation is a vital part of Ponty Pridds’ mission. We continue to seek opportunities to equip women and other stakeholders with the knowledge and tools to make a difference. Tree planting is one of the most effective actions we can take to achieve a carbon-neutral environment, and women have a critical role to play in this effort. By involving women in such initiatives, we unlock a powerful force for positive change, creating a more sustainable future for everyone.
As we celebrate Mazingira Day, let us remember that each tree we plant is a step toward healing our planet. Through initiatives like Ponty Pridd’s 1 Million Trees Project and others like the Total Eco-Challenge, we are not just restoring Kenya’s forests—we are fostering a culture of responsibility, learning, and action. Together, with the support of programs like She Delivers, we can build a greener, healthier world for future generations.
